Huawei-Ericsson signs long-term agreement on patent usage
Chinese telecom giant Huawei and Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson have signed a long-term agreement to use each other's patents. Both companies announced the deal amid trade tensions between China and the US.
In 2019, the US imposed a ban on Huawei. As a result, Huawei faced obstacles in various fields, including the purchase of various components from the United States. The US bans Huawei over allegations that it is acting as a spy for Beijing. Not only Huawei, several Chinese companies are under this ban.
In such a situation, the Chinese company is adopting various strategies to re-promote their business. As part of this, Huawei announced a long-term agreement with Ericsson to use each other's patents.
The agreement covers the purchase and sale of network infrastructure and consumer devices including 3G, 4G, and 5G.
It should be noted that Huawei and Ericsson were bound by a similar agreement since 2016.
